I’m happy to come across Bird of the Week Challenge because we have had a Mourning Dove pair attempting to nest on our arbor gate. Unfortunately a hawk chased them away. Didn’t get them so it was exciting to see a raptor in the yard. Another Dove pair layer eggs right by our back door in 2020 but a critter got the eggs.

The minute this photo came on, I heard a mourning dove call out. It is still talking to me! I love their mournful cry…it takes me back to my childhood, and that’s a loooooong way.

Doves are such sweet visitors. We have a mating pair who return to us each spring and summer. Well I tell myself they are the same pair…
