For Sunday Stills Editing I have been attempting to integrate my photos that inspired this prose poem and failing. Any suggestions.

Inspired from Wife by Ada Limon. 2-26-24

FIZZ

Ms Limon in her poem “Wife” describes the word wife as “a short clean whoosh that sounds like life.”

Whoosh and fizz have been on my mind today. On this February 26th spring seems to be fizzing up from the ground. I’ve seen streams bubbling over so that the near by plum trees fizz as their stems explode with tiny flowers up and down the curving dark length. Early bees and brave humming birds appear as if by magic called by this fizz and buzzy glisten from the still low sun. Like them I ventured out to admire the pink parfait on the currents and fuchsias I planted for this very purpose: early pink fuzz after grey wet winter. Oh and the green, I mean really green only seen on the February mosses and lichens. Lasting only moments like the magic mushrooms. Not hallucinogenic, magic because they suddenly appear out of thin air. I posted on-line photos that I took of such beings and made new friends with folks all over the East Bay saying wow “I have these never before seen fungus near me too”

Like the micilliim spreading underground we connected and came to life suddenly and unexpectedly. Bubbled up and fizzed into being a community of curiosity and wonder. Would it be so for all people (like bees and hummingbirds) paying attention to the small wonders from which they receive sustenance. That’s all they, we, I, really need. I weep now for the war mongers who are blinded by lack of wonder. They drop bombs because they can’t hear the fizz of spring.

  1. Wonderful sentiments in your prose, Carol. If spring means a lot of rain we are sure getting it here in Spokane, along with weird weather. The images are quite lovely. I’m not sure how this goes with the editing theme–I know you use Light Room, right?
