Why

Violet is the final color of the rainbow

the shadow in the tomb

the veil the shaman passes through

to retrieve our soul from their holding places

and we become flowering

vessels of the mystery.

  1. I simply adore your purple prose, poems, and photos!!! I am collecting color words: lavender, lilac, orchid, violet, wine, aubergine. Can anyone out there add to these? I found synonyms on the internet, but the words are too abstruse for me, but evidently “amaranthine” and “violaceous” are synonyms. I left out mauve, because isn’t that a sort of dirty purple? Or am I wrong on that? Oh, they have “pomegranate” listed, a lovely fruit and word, but I do not think of it as purple.

    1. Carolee, Wow I started something! What are you going to do Monday when I move on to indigo as I move backwards through the rainbow? Aubergine, eggplant, is closer to indigo because it is bluish. Oh how fun 🙂

  2. I’ve been curious about mauve, too. I found an extensive article about it on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauve), and another one on lavender (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavender_%28color%29), which has a whole chart at the bottom of the supposed shades of violet. “Plum” is a nice simple fruit name for a purple color. Basically, they all seem to be pretty imprecise words–“puce” is another one, with even more negative connotations than mauve.
