When you live on a hill with an underground spring
be careful what you plant
the two foot sapling from the nursery
soon is taller than the fence,
bigger than the garage, the whole yard while
the kid you brought home in a tiny basket
gets busy outgrowing her shoes and socks, bikes
and Barney the Purple Dinosaur then moves to Mexico
only to come home and stand next to you
and the giant snowball tree and asks
“Hey Mom when did that get so big?”
Wednesday Quiz: Why is do you think hummingbird is the new image for Light Words? No wrong answer.
Light Words has put on a new Spring dress to make room for interesting line breaks and make her easier to read. I’m still getting this to fit just right. I will miss the ever changing background colors, but for now it’s time for a change. Who knows, I was also admiring a purple starry theme, maybe I’ll try that on for Summer. Please let me know what you think.
.

My mom always called these snowballs, and I had never heard the term, and I thought it was so cute.

I love this poem! It reminds me of my little dog, Tufa, who eats her little puppy treats when we give them to her inside, but if we give them to her in our garden, she digs a hole and plants them. Do you think she’s hoping a puppy biscuit tree will grow?

Smoky welcome to Light Words. A biscuit tree. Maybe if you water them with gravy they will grow 😉
Glad you like my poem.

Love the imagery! My hydrangea “Annabelle” is planted over an underground spring and she is growing and multiplying generously 🙂

What a good idea to name my plant. Hope we get to see Annabelle some time. I have had long had hydrangea envy it’s a serious condition cured only by keep the poor plants in pots on the deck. I guess I’m over protective.
