Yesterday I wrote these poems as response to Billy Collins’ Poem “Monday Morning.” I was fascinated with the line in it “a cockatoo swinging freely in her green mind” As I wrote it I was thinking of it as Escher or a modus strip which ends as it begins. Today Margo Rody‘s Tuesday tryout suggested writing to an Escher, this in itself created a magical Escher-like synchronistical landscape possibility for poetry.

In Praise of a Swinging Cockatoo Mind
Green,
always new, aways beginning
always catching the updrafts to new heights,
upbeat, and up
right to the top
of the magnolia tree
always perched ready to call out
praise for each day beginning new,
and green.
Haiku
Bright green swinging mind
always flitting, flying up
take me home with you.

Lovely poetry, Carol. I love Escher too; you made a great connection between his visuals and your words.

I was the one who caught the swirling updraft between poetry and image. Thanks you for noticing this ephemeral event, Lynn.

Very cool, Carol. I love looking at the visual as I mentally watch the cockatoo mind flying up. That’s a great Collins’ image you riffed off of.

Who would have ever thought of Billy Collins and Escher folding together? Margo and Carol that’s who. Perfect prompt for me this week. Thanks! Now I wonder if I can dance music for this!

I enjoyed both pieces Carol. I too wrote my verse before the prompt popped up.
