” While sitting next to a mountain pond, something of its stillness seeps into your heart.” Rick Hanson

Coming home from vacation a little sand, may fall out of your suitcase as you unpack your souvenirs, it reminds you that are bringing home more than things, you are bringing home experiences. The  smell of wind, the light on the water, the sound of a bird call are all with you. When needed, in times of stress or sadness, these memories can be called upon to nurture you.

These places don’t have to be from a vacation, they can be as close as your back yard or the walk to the post office. I have places from my childhood that I have gone to and sit with in times of trouble.

“When mind and body are this settled, there is no sense of deficit or disturbance, and no struggling with anything, or grasping after it, or clinging to others. There’s an inner freedom, a non-reactivity, that is wonderful.” Rick Hanson

If you don’t yet have such a place be on the look out for it or sit quietly and ask to be guided through your memory to “your place in nature. “

  1. In a way . . . . it reminds me of sitting on that big rock at the pond on “the farm” just waiting for that big bass to bite . . . . that I almost caught. lol

  2. I wonder what will fall our of my suitcase after a year of wandering. We spent the evening looking through books of France and making a list of places we want to go, trails we want to hike, cathedrals and museums to visit.
