“It is said that Thomas Merton was not only a poet and theologian, but also, a photographer. He considered photography a form of contemplative meditation. He welcomed the beauty of broken things.” paraphrased from Sunday talk by Mathew Fox

Night Rose
Night Rose

Wandering with friends in my garden Saturday night by the flashlight on my cell phone, we came upon the rain-soaked rose with a caterpillar drinking her nectar. I framed it with the flashlight turned on camera flash and screen went black but I shot in the dark, Wa la this is what I got. No edit! Must try this again who knows what I will find?
I got the miniature tea rose from the 100th Anniversary Celebration of The Berkeley Rose Garden many years ago. As you can see it goes through many colors from bud to bloom.

Love to hear what you think.

  1. A nice photo, Carol. Those nighttime images are tricky, at best. You have inspired me to try some work with the flashlight mode of the iPhone.

      1. I found the flower with the flashlight app then turned on the camera with flash which then tired off the flashlight which made it hard to shoot…so I was shooting in the dark.
PS wine was involved. This was during a party 😊
