Terri’s Sunday Stills reminds us February Is Feed the Birds Month. After years of struggling with the squirrels I have created the “Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder” Basically I put a plant saucer through the hanging wires on top of the feeder so that it tilts easily which the squirrels don’t like. And I put it far enough away so those acrobatic creatures can’t jump on it. Feeder in action with goldfinches. They love Nyjer thistle food and so do other birds.

Other birds enjoy the seeds from beneath the feeder and around my yard.

  1. First off thank you for the several tries to link–I actually got them all, but I was out for an hour so I couldn’t approve them, which may have not shown them on your side. I just discovered a Spokane area WordPress meet up this week, so I’m going to pick their brains about these commenting issues.

Oh my gosh, look at the squirrels contorting for food! So hilarious! We had a LOT of squirrels at our former Sacramento home–I swear, I saw them fly through the air to try to get to a feeder a few times. You have a lot of beautiful birds in your yard, how wonderful!
