These beloved shrubs and

groundcovers turn many

Western hills blue in

Winter and Spring.

I might add:

Bees love them,

gardeners love them,

deer won’t go near them,

they’re hard to photograph,

and they smell  just as sweet as lilacs, they’re

Ceanothus the California State Shrub!
