Words of old gossip hymns have been floating through my mind lately. “For the Beauty of the Earth,”… “Love Lifted Me”, “… Angel band come around me stand” and “How Can I keep from Singing”. Then there is the chant “The Earth is My Mother I must take care of her”. What are your favorites?
Sounds like the Baptist coming out in you. lol
I guess my favorite hymn would be In The Garden. It is usually used at funerals, but if you really read the words it is good for anyone and anytime. He walks with me, and He talks with me. Now that’s good anytime!! Also He Keeps Me Singing, and Saved, Saved. I guess that would be the ones I like the most. (Guess I’m showing my Baptist too. Hee, hee)

I wanted the words to “the Garden” for a memorial and the only place I could find it was a Presbyterian hymnal. My mom sang that all the time. Good gospel music doesn’t belong to any one denomination. The Earth is Our Mother is a Goddess chant 😉

Carol, for the Beauty of the Earth is a favorite; I was just thinking this week how I have always loved hymns with a nature orientation. Beautiful Savior is another favorite. Enya did a beautiful rendition a few years back of “How Can I Keep from Singing?” – I preached a sermon on the lyrics once, when I was filling in for our minister 🙂

There is a beautiful youtube anti war video of Enya singing “How can I keep From Singing”, Very touching. Our little choir just sang it in Church a few weeks ago 🙂 What a great sermon theme!
