And now for you a poem that may be a love poem:
A Journey To End of the Earth
I
The road curls like the waves below the cliffs
land and water unite
under a white veil of fog
I drive slowly not to out drive our headlights
I tell my passenger
“we are on a journey to the end of the earth,
what else is there to do until the key is returned?”
“but we came to watch the sunset
we can’t see anything!”
says the passenger.
I know, we all know
where the road will take us. Repeating myself
“We are going to go to of the end of earth.” I drive on to
where the sky and sea will hold court.
Shadows of gulls and cormorants
rise up from below us
the land gives way to air and water.
Only the yellow guard rail acknowledges our arrival.
“We’ve come this far we must get out
we must go all the way to the end of the Earth!“
So, we silently walk into the clouds.
II
Now I can tell you for certain
if you are willing to
make your way the end of the earth
when you life requires you to
wait for a key.
you will find
a bride dressed all in
white ruffles.

Putting it all together: I had this story from years ago when a bride seem to magically appeared out of the fog in Santa Cruz but I never could figure out how to frame it until Margo Rody asked us to write about land. Perhaps it’s even a love poem. Happy Valentine’s day.

I absolutely love the final stanza. What a gorgeous image to give us for that particular end of the world. The story that leads into it is perfect.

First thank you. It is all true and that is the bride that appeared out of the fog. Isn’t it amazing what happens she you tell the truth and then sit back and listen to what it has to to tell you back.
Oh and did you notice my lines are waves?
Happy V. Day

I’ll take you up on that, Carol 🙂 I have a friend with relatives in Ireland, who live on the last road at the end of the earth for northern Europe.

sounds like a cool place. Have you been there? I am fascinated by end of the earth places. The tip of South America always seems to call me but maybe the edge of Europe is easier to get to. Then there is where the US is 90 miles from Russia.
Let me know when you get in town. Next week 😉
Fun to dream!

Never been there Carol, but my friend has described it and referred to it many times. I’m content for now to snuggle into the hills and valleys of western PA but still, I suppose the idea still beckons to me.

Beckon, yes the wider world often does that, but here I stay and dream.
