Does seeing other folks smiling make you smile?
Have you been told It takes fewer muscles to smile then frown? Try it. What other folk wisdom is there about smiling? Like a smile goes a long way because it has a mile in it. I bet you know more?
I spent a day at a retreat with the Buddhist teacher Thic Na Han, and his message was Smile. Yes there are all the often complicated meditation practices, which I, for one, often forget. But lifting the corners of my mouth up only slightly is easy and certainly makes me feel better. There are scientific studies that prove that smiling has health befits. Do your own study:
Try this:
When I worked in nursing homes nursing homes instead of telling folks to Smile! I would ask: “Show me your teeth” about 99% of the time I would get a grin and a laugh. Did it work for you?
Once you get good at the face expanding skill try The Inner Smile. Here’s a link from my friend and chiropractor Dr. Linda Berry on how to dissolve distress and build energy and vitality with The Inner Smile.
Finally how about a joke. Maybe an old knock knock joke. Ok you start it. 😉
Did that put a smile on your face?

Had a rough day – I think my heart can smile and be sad at the same time. I’m ok with that. Kindergarten has been a little emotional..It has brought up a little sadness for me.
Much peace –

Brilliant smiley pictures and synchronicity ~ in my Nurturing post this week I’ve vowed to consciously laugh and smile more. Thank you for reminding me about the Inner Smile ~ I have practiced T’ai Chi/Chi Gong for many years but somehow forgot this! 🙂 It also makes me laugh to think of Becca’s blog as a bright yellow Mother Ship. May the force be with you, too! 🙂

Thanks Jacqueline, I need this reminder for myself, too. I may have to keep that Mothership link each week to keep the smiles going.

I visited a wonderful garden today. There were huge beds full of amazing plants and sweeping masses of soft colours. Nothing too garish and everything blending beautifully. Bees and butterflies were busy about their business. Grasses rustled in the gentle breeze and the sound of water was ever present in the background. This garden had a soul of its own and made me smile.
There is a saying that you are nearest to God in a garden and I think that is so true. Several hours later I am still smiling.
