Ode to the New Bridge
The first day the bridge was open
with no plan in mind
we hopped in the car
to join fellow travelers
to cross the bay for fun
welcomed by bright cables
we waved and cheered
snapped pictures
and wondered.
 Sky and steel
and asphalt
created poetry
beyond the ordinary
journey across a mud flat.
 For the rhythm and rhyme
of an artist
for a plan beyond my
understanding
I  stand amazed
humbled.
For a safe journey home
I give thanks.

One is cautioned not to explain art, but for those of us who live through the quake of ’89, a “safe” journey across the bay has powerful meaning. We have quaked, just a little, for the last 24 years every time we crossed this bridge that was broken.
When have you been reassured?

    1. The bridge should still be here when next you come West. Thanks for the “love” I always feel all tangled up when I do something like this, good to know it worked…

    1. Aw an appreciator of bridges. You’ll like this one. It’s so wide and pretty you just want to get out and dance around on it like Uncle Walter 😉
