A Cat Poem
Just because you wear
that silky white tuxedo shirt
I know you are an evil black hearted
seedy bread thieving cat.
Every time I come to visit you pilfer
the beautiful baguette adorned
with anise, sesame and poppy
black, crunchy and sweet
tasty and ready to stick between my teeth
so when I smile everyone knows
I’ve enjoyed the treat
of a Semifeddii’s* loaf.
Don’t you sit there all aloof
Miss Lucy-fur you have not
saved me from embarrassment
you have denied to me
the bread, cheese and wine
trifecta of perfect contentment.

*Semifeddi’s is a local San Francisco Bay Area bread company so amazing folks often refuse to move away just because they don’t want to be too far from it. The company’s Sourdough Seedy baguette is often spoken of in hushed tones, like the hope diamond or a new-born baby. Well any way I like it.
Miss Lucy-Fur likes her bread, does she? I once had a cat that loved potato chips 🙂

The heck with the cat. I want the bread! I love her name. Makes me grin when I read it.

Next time your out here make sure you get a seedy baguette! I believe that name is what inspired the poem… it deserves one, especially this time of year!

Oh, do not begrudge the cat her treats. Opposable thumbs make things so much easier for us – a cat must be extra clever to bag the baguette.
