Night and Day
Inspired By Wendell Berry’s The Peace Of Wild Things
Still
At 5 AM
I walk on to the deck to watch the Moon looking full of herself
Accompanied by a palm tree and a planet, Jupiter I believe.
I see a halo of rainbows around the moon.
Taking a photo the colors disappear into grayness on the screen
Still the tree silhouette, moon and star are a perfect Magi,
Wild Things un-taxed by forethought
Comfortingly silent,
No news of death
or fires out here.
Still. At most witnesses to my anxious heart beating in the darkness of night.
I seek to be the peaceful being they see Until a breeze from the North chills me and I run inside to the warmth of the bed.
Still for 10 minutes, I have not thought of the horrors happing in my world
For a short time I rest in the grace of a safe world.
At 10 AM
this morning I look up at were the moon and planet were
A dusty blue sky fills the empty space next to tall palm
I know they were there still “I feel the presents of the day-blind Lstars”
Carol Carlisle
I must include the words of Wendell Berry that inspired me Enjoy
When despair grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting for their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Very nice – good catch with the moon and planet. I also like your day and night juxtaposition.
