The god of dirt
came up to me many times and said
so many wise and delectable things, I lay
on the grass listening
to his dog voice,
crow voice,
frog voice; now,
he said, and now,
came up to me many times and said
so many wise and delectable things, I lay
on the grass listening
to his dog voice,
crow voice,
frog voice; now,
he said, and now,
and never once mentioned forever

(Dream Work)
Jackesprinters asks us to believe in our goals and we’re half way there. Confession: because I need a hip replacement walking in the woods an knowing nothing is forever seems worthy goals for now.
Very profound. I really like it. Hugs, Barbara

wow. We want forever, we have now and often don’t see the now for the longing for what we don’t have. Mary Oliver….her work seems to be appearing before me more and more these days. I like to think it’s because we are kindred spirits!

Good poem. Brings back memories of when “we” used to play outside from daylight to dark. (and even after dark sometimes) Would be in the dirt. lay in the grass. and hear many things. As kids, we learned so much about life doing that too. Even caught a frog or two. lol (never did get a wart either!)

My cousin recently had the hip replacement surgery and can walk again. She can’t understand why she kept putting it off.

Such a warm memory you inspired – laying on the ground as a child and listening and feeling the sound of the earth!
