Ahhh! Sorry to disturb you

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge asked for Abandoned Buildings and Barns the only abandoned image was this boat from a visit to Baja Mexico. We could hear the sea lions, but it wasn’t until the camera flashed that we saw these charming creatures.

Tuesday Poetry and Photography: Let’s Go Down to the Sea Again

Come with me
bring your dog
your warm sweater
your bare feet
if you dare
bring your willingness
to sit still
to set sail
as life’s unfolding
takes your breath away.

Carol Carlisle

As a kid in the 6th grade
in dry, land locked Oklahoma
I had to stand up in class and recite
John Masefield’s Sea Fever
it had little meaning for me but terror.
After more than fifty some years
I live within the sound of beckoning waves
so now the winds song and flying clouds
belong to me.

Sea Fever
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking,

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

Is there a poem you had to memorize as a kid that comes back to you from time to time?

Phoneorgaphy: The Challenging Chalk Art Photography

Admiring the swimmer

1-Admiring the bathing beauty. Photo toaster.

Sunday I visited an outdoor chalk painting exhibit in San Rafael Ca. The Challenge for the photographer was: how to make art out of other folks making art, out of mostly 1949’s poster art. I noticed the shadow of my hat and another woman’s hat and got her stand with me to capture this rather voyeuristic image. Which images do you like?

Here I handed my phone to a tall guy to take this picture so I could have an image of the whole image for you to see. Thanks tall guy.

Another look at 40's woman

4-Another look at 40’s woman and a hard-working modern artist.

So many images, so little time! It was very hot on the asphalt so I give a lot of credit to the artist sitting in the sun doing work that is already gone.

Happy Monday!

Quilt of Tee Shirts From Berkeley Family Camp

Quilt of Tee Shirts From Berkeley Family Camp

Much love and many tears went into this quilt because the camp burned to the ground only a few weeks before in deviating wild fire near Yosemite.

As I write friends and family are preparing to evacuate because of wild fires in San Diego County.

Art is a powerful tool for voicing deep heartfelt desires and giving meaning to the unthinkable. What ways have you seen such expressions?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside A Basket Full of Treasures

Inside a basket of nature's wonders

Inside a basket  full of Mother Nature’s treasures

A lavender wand and a heart-shaped box of decorated with shells, hide among other Mother Natures treasures. I believer there is also a coyote melon, a yucca seed pod, coral, and a pine cone all brought home from my wanderings about this planet. The basket sits on the hearth of our unused fireplace  for a reminder of where we’ve been and where we hope to go again.

Berry Bloody Fingers

Justine and Marie  with Bloody Berry Zombie Fingers! The girls are language students from France and Czech Republic here to learn American ways.

After an afternoon of berry picking I said show me your hands and this is the pose I got. You know someone has learned a language when the understand humor.

Recipe for the berry crumble is: oatmeal, butter and sugar on top of sweetened berries, with a little flour to hold it together. Sorry no measurements because my grandmother taught me to cook by the handful instead of measuring.

The girls are students at Intrax San Francisco where my daughter is the housing coordinator if anyone one wants to host a student or come here to study click the bright yellow link.
